Frequently Asked Questions About the Affordable PC Program

  • What computers are available for purchase with this program?
    There are three types of computers available for purchase:
    • A refurbished Pentium IV with a 17” monitor 
    • A new Dell computer with a 15” flat screen monitor
    • A refurbished Dell laptop
  • How much do the computers cost? How do I pay?
    • The refurbished computer price is $200 and requires a $75-$100 deposit with the balance paid before receiving the computer. These payments must be a money order or cashiers check made out to "One Economy."
    • The new Dell computer price is $500 plus shipping and there are two payment options:
    • The refurbished Dell laptop is $500 and has the same payment options as the new Dell computer.
  • What is a refurbished computer?
    When large corporations and institutions upgrade their computer equipment, they often donate the equipment to worthwhile not-for-profit organizations. Our supplier, Computers for Schools (CFS), refurbishes and upgrades this donated equipment and installs Microsoft software to keep current with educational technology standards.
  • What is the Digital Access Loan Fund? 
    The loan fund is a program established by One Economy Corporation with Hope Community Credit Union that allows eligible participants to purchase a computer at an affordable price. The Digital Access Loan Fund is underwritten in part by a grant from Cisco Systems. The Loan Fund also allows participants to enhance their existing credit or to establish new credit.
  • Is Internet access included with the computer?
    Internet access is not included with this current package. However, both types of computers are capable of accessing the Internet if you have Internet service. Training will also be provided that will include advice on obtaining Internet access.
  • Is a printer included?
    Printers are not included with these options.
  • What are the requirements for participating in this program?
    All parents, guardians and teachers of students who attend Cisco 21S District Schools may participate in this program. Participants must also agree to:
    • Complete two hours of computer training with their child
    • Take part in at least two (2) surveys or focus groups concerning the program
  • What is covered in the training program and who must attend?
    The training program is a short “computer basics” and “introduction to your computer” session. Also presented at the training session will be information on how to be safe and secure on the Internet, as well as resources available as part of Cisco’s 21st Century Schools Initiative. Dates, locations and times will be available at the Open Houses. Both parents and children are invited to attend.
  • How many computers can I purchase through this program?
    You may purchase (1) computer per enrolled child through the Digital Access Loan Fund and as many as you wish for your family through the Direct Purchase Program.
  • Until what date is this offer available?
    The program will be available until the end of the school year, June 2009. Dates for ordering and deliveries will be coordinated with Rodney Jordan from One Economy.
